For the past few days we’ve been resourcing you with thoughts, ideas, and encouragement in creating energy for serving the families in your group or student ministry. It’s part of a conversation I wanted to have with you about the Orange Conference. I hope you’ve enjoyed the worksheets that help families think about communication in the home. Now let’s give you a tool to get communication rolling.

 

It’s pretty simple if you’ve ever done a scavenger hunt. The only twist is that families drive from place to place stopping to take a picture and have a specific conversation. They meet back at a central location for a global get together with participating families or for a meal and more fun. You decide how you want to award pictures taken. Most creative, fastest team, best photo, etc are some of the ways to award and have fun with your families.

 

When the families start it’s very important to encourage them to explore the topic as fully as they can. To keep them moving you have to set a time limit at each spot to take the photo and ask the question. Then ultimately you have to give them a time limit and return time so that everyone gets back. Each family needs a camera and the questions below.

Destination 1

Drive to the park and take a picture of your family on some park equipment. Ask this question after the picture and continue the conversation in the car. Everyone answers the question.

 

What was your favorite toy growing up? What was or is your favorite game to play as a child? Why?

Destination 2

Drive to a bridge and take a picture of your family with the bridge in the background. Ask this question after the picture and continue the conversation in the car. Everyone answers the question.

 

What was the most difficult thing you ever had to do in your life? Explain. What is one thing you wish you could do that you never have done?

Destination 3

Drive to a post office and have your family take a picture with everyone hugging the mailbox. Ask this question after the picture and continue the conversation in the car. Everyone answers the question.

 

What was your favorite vacation or trip that you’ve ever had? If you could go anywhere in the world where would you go and why?

Destination 4

Drive to a bank and have your family take a picture with a bank lobby employee or in front of an atm. Ask this question after the picture and continue the conversation in the car. Everyone answers the question.

 

What is the most valuable thing to you and why? If you had a million dollars what would you do with it and why?

Destination 5

Drive to a field and take individual pictures of your family smelling a flower. Ask this question after the picture and continue the conversation in the car. Everyone answers the question.

 

What is the greatest thing that ever happened to you in your life? Why? What makes you happy? How can our family be a better family?

Destination 6

Drive to your child’s school and take a picture of your family with the school in the background. Ask this question after the picture and continue the conversation in the car. Everyone answers the question.

 

What was it like for you (parent) when you were in school? If you (parent) could go back and change one thing what would you change and why?

Destination 7

Drive to a church or back to your group gathering spot and take a photo with the church in the background. Ask this question after the picture and continue the conversation in the car. Everyone answers the question.

 

How can I be a better parent, son, or daughter to you? How can we love each other well as a family? Explain Is there anything you want to tell me?

 

Have fun with your families and try to think of more destinations. I bet you can do a better job than me. Obviously the goal is for the families to have fun. Create a memory and have significant conversation.
