Aw Snap is a volunteer game that requires a bit of setup and testing. You will need two life jackets, bungee cord, two apples, and two baseball tees. Ask your leaders if you can borrow the items and avoid the expenses.

This game appeared on Ellen in 2011. The video below pretty much explains the game visually. Two players are strapped in life jackets which have been tied together by bungee cord. Away from them an apple has been set on a baseball tee. The object of the game is for a player to reach their apple and pull it from the tee using only their mouth. Watch the video for the visual. Before you play the game. Test the stretch length of the bungee cord so you know how far out to place the tees.

  1. Is there one way of attaching the cord to the life jacket that is better than others? May 22, 2013 at 8:59 am #

What bungee cord makers use is a galvanized clamp. They crimp the clamp with pliers. Here is what it looks like. I think you can use alternative solutions and double up for extra strength.

Also try googling rope clamp. Cheap hardware item.

Great idea. I used latex tubing (although I think it actually turns out to be more expensive), climbing harnesses and quick-draws to secure the tubing. I had the climibing gear, so the latex tubing was my only expense, around $15.

We’ve played this game since Ellen did it in 2011. Home Depot sells bungee cords with carabiner ends. We double up for middle school and triple/quadruple for high school and adults. We’ve never had any issues with the bungees. I would recommend helmets though. It’s saved us from a student or two whacking their heads.
