I watched a video today of a fan filming Dave Grohl at a Soundgarden concert. The fact that he was among the fans, on the floor, sharing with them their love for good music gave every youtube follower a chance to pause and consider the circumstance.

I’m not into over spiritualizing things but I couldn’t help but reflect on how Jesus was known for this kind of behavior. The real Jesus was a crowd control nightmare. He often retreated to quiet places, confusing his closest friends, who didn’t understand his ultimate intentions. Showing up in a town created throngs of people staving each other off for a chance at a glimpse of the messiah and miracle worker.

Some 2,000 plus years later Jesus is still admired and identified with not just because of his sacrifice but because of his reputation. A savior who came not for himself, fame, and glory but for us. He put on our skin and hung with the worst of us. Often seen with the derelicts, rejects, vagabonds, and yes, sinners of which I am. In the crowd, face to face, with common man was who He was. No matter what people say about religion they have always seem to know the difference between the church and the person of Christ.

Watch this video and read through the comments I’ve pasted below.

That’s why everyone must love Dave.He talks to fans, and go to a concert like a “Normal” person. What other famous and succesfull rock musician do that? You never see Gene Simmons in the crowd.

I Love soundgarden but if I would see Dave Grohl standing next to me … the concerts wouldn’t matters anymore. And man, he’s Dave Grohl and he knows that :D he also knows that people would realise him and it seems to be fine with him. If not, he would go to a concert that way. I would stand there to and sare at him all the time.

God how awesome could that be to actually get to enjoy a concert with Dave. I couldn’t imagine anything comparing with seeing and hearing him onstage, but this could come close. I’ve heard him say how much he enjoys other bands, but you just wouldn’t expect to run into him in the pit. It doesn’t surprise me much though- he is the ultimate. SO GREAT to see him having a good time just being Dave!

That’s kinda awesome seeing him down there without any bodyguards being just another fan watching Soundgarden!! Wonder how many times he’s done this before or he just made that appearance because it was the all mighty Soundgarden.

Now all the tax-gatherers and the sinners were coming near Him to listen to Him. And both the Pharisees and the scribes began to grumble, saying, “This man receives sinners and eats with them. – Luke 15:1-2

On hearing this, Jesus said to them, “It is not the healthy who need a doctor, but the sick. I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners.” Mark 2:17

Then it happened that as Jesus was reclining at the table in the house, behold, many tax collectors and sinners came and were dining with Jesus and His disciples. Matthew 9:10
