CAPTURE THE TIKI
T. J. Woodard shares an event with us that sounds like a lot of fun. The event is called Capture the Tiki. Here is how T. J. explains it.
We played a giant version of capture the flag called CAPTURE THE TIKI. Instead of capturing a flag, you have to extinguish a tiki torch. You will need A LOT of water balloons, and you can use water guns or balloon launchers too if you want. The rules are pretty simple, get hit by a water balloon and you’re out, last torch lit wins. Usually it comes down to a couple people. We had twice as many kids as usual come for this event by passing out flyers. You’ll need a big field to play in. I built bases for 4 tiki torches that made them stand about 8 feet high. Since we’re too cheap for bandannas, we cut 4 different colored t-shirts into strips and the kids tied them around their heads to show what team they were on. Sometimes the torches go out on their own without being hit, just have someone ready with a lighter. For added drama we blared the 300 soundtrack during the whole battle. If you want chaos at the end you can play again with just 2 torches, one for leaders and one for students. Ours wound up being 75 vs. 5 and it was hilarious.
